Construction Begins on Our New Shop
With permits finalized, construction began on our new commercial space in Vancouver. The first phase focused on framing the interior layout, establishing plumbing rough-ins, and preparing the infrastructure needed to support our fabrication workflow.
As the stud walls went up, the space started to take shape. Exposed plumbing and electrical lines were routed through the new walls. This stage offered a rare look at the structure behind the finished shop — the kind of detail that disappears once the walls are closed.
A key design decision was reclaiming as much usable floor area as possible. To achieve that, we worked with the architect and structural engineer and electrician to relocate the transformer up into the ceiling structure. Raising it off the floor not only opened up valuable workspace but also required a structural engineering review to ensure the new suspended placement met load and seismic restraint safety requirements.
The same approach was applied in the washroom by elevating the hot water tank. Mounting it high up reclaimed the floor space.
Throughout the summer, trades moved through the unit completing electrical upgrades, lighting improvements, and the mechanical work needed for our fabrication processes.
By the end of the season, the shop had transformed from an empty shell into a defined workspace ready for finishing and occupancy in the fall.
